“Unmuted- From Silence to Authentic Expression“

TBA

Summary:Unmuted: From Silence to Authentic Expression invites teachers to look beyond language accuracy and consider what helps learners feel safe enough to speak, share and be themselves in the classroom. Using authentic materials, it explores simple ways to turn language practice into meaningful communication. At its heart, the presentation is about creating space for students not only to learn English, but to find confidence, connection and their own voice through it.By the end of it, teachers will leave with a ready-to-use Christmas lesson framework based on authentic material, including ideas for meaningful speaking and reflection activities.

Katerina Balasi is an English teacher with 26 years of experience and a partner in a foreign language institute since 2009. Her professional journey has been enriched by further studies in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and her training as a Mental Health Counsellor in the Person-Centred Approach, currently completing my supervised practice.

Valia Gkotsi, MA, BA, Cert., is an IB English Teacher and Examiner, as well as a drama/theatre pedagogue. “What Makes the Christmas Spirit Truly Special?“

TBA

Summary: Christmas classes do not have to follow the same norm every year! We can have the opportunity to approach an alternative, traditional Russian Christmas tale and explore this holiday season through a sociocultural lens. Through various drama conventions, students may still be inspired and offered food for thought.

Ioanna Georgakopoulou (BA in English Language and Literature- UOA, Ma Drama in Education- University of Warwick, UK), is the Head of the Academic Learning Centre in Metropolitan College, an English teacher and a drama pedagogue. Language, for her is a code through which people communicate using theatre and drama to transform the experience of learning a language into a personal journey by giving motives to students to approach it.
