Celebrating the Gift of Interaction:

A Journey of Human Connection

Summary: This interactive plenary explores the pedagogical value of interaction as a transformative force in language education. Drawing inspiration from the 1914 Christmas Truce, it highlights how curiosity, empathy, and creativity can turn classrooms into spaces of genuine dialogue and human connection. Participants will engage in reflective, collaborative activities that celebrate teaching as an act of giving and shared presence.

Peggy Karagianni is Director of Studies at Ellinoagliki Agogi School and founder of The Language Hive, with over 25 years of experience in ELT. She holds a BA and MA in English Literature (specialising in Postmodern Fiction) and a BA in European Studies. A Global Schools Advocate, she integrates the SDGs into English education.

Christmas: The Gift of Interaction

Summary: The presentation follows the designing of an English Drama Workshop, based on the techniques and practical tools of Educational Theatre and Documentary theatre. It is aimed at age groups of pre-teens aged 11-12 but it could be tailored to the needs of younger or even older target groups. How do Christmas 🎄 decorations affect the mood and well-being of pre-teens? Can students share their own emotions and thoughts about what Christmas means to them? And could that sharing be turned into a piece of dramatic art? The workshop involves interacting in many different ways, triggering both linguistic and kinesthetic awareness.

Matilda Rizou studied English Literature and Linguistics at Aristotle University, Thessaloniki and then pursued a Postgraduate Degree in Applied Translation Studies at Leeds University, England. Subsequently, she studied Drama and Acting at the New Hellenic Theatre of Georgios Armenis in Athens. Having a 22 year old work experience, she is currently working as a teacher of English in the public sector and pusuing her second Masters in Greek and World Theatre: Drama, Performance, Education.
