Silent Discussion: The Power of Silence in the Classroom

Margarita Kosior

Silence doesn’t have to be intimidating; it can open up space for productivity, creativity and cooperation. Silent discussion is a learning strategy which helps explore a topic, allows each student to work at their own pace, engages all participants, and transforms the lesson into a memorable teaching and learning experience.

Who is Margarita Kosior? What is the single characteristic that you want most people to know about you?

Dreamer, because every great accomplishment begins with a crazy dream 🙂

How is your presentation connected to the umbrella topic of the conference of “The 5 Ts of TESOL: Teach, Train, Transform, Transcend, Trust”?

The aim of my session in to train you how to use a unique teaching technique which, among other benefits, by building trust, will help you transcend the obstacles which prevent even shy learners from participating in class, and will thus transform a lesson into a unique experience.

Which is your favorite T? Teach, Train, Transform, Transcend, or Trust, and why?

Transform. Because education has the power to shape attitudes, change lives, and ultimately transform the world.
