A Message from the TESOL Greece Chair

Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the TESOL Greece board, it is my great pleasure to announce the Mediterranean Symposium in ELT which will take place in Chania, Crete on July 1-3, 2022. The symposium is organised by TESOL Greece with the participation of teacher associations of the region: ELT Council Malta, ETAI, HUPE, TESOL France and TESOL Spain.

This event marks the return of TESOL Greece to face-to-face events since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. We have made every effort to make it a special one by welcoming distinguished speakers who represent the participating teacher associations with presentations covering a wide range of topics: Annie Altamirano (TESOL Spain), Petra Blajić (HUPE), Letizia Cinganotto (TESOL Italy), Dr. Michael Dekel (ETAI), Nancy Mitchell (TESOL France), Dr. Luke Prodromou (TESOL Greece), Sophia Mavridi (TESOL Greece) and Daniel Xerri (ELT Council Malta).

The talks will take place in the mornings, on Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd of July at the Akali hotel and the symposium will comprise a rich social programme which aims to give to attendees a taste of the Cretan culture. Activities start on Friday evening with the ‘Meet the Speakers Dinner’ with Cretan dancing and then on to Saturday evening with a stargazing and the mythology of constellations activity, a beach party and more. There will also be a chance to explore the old city of Chania or go for a swim to one of the beaches within walking distance of the old city.

Attendance is free for TESOL Greece members as well as for members of participating associations in an effort to bring teachers from various associations closer, through professional development and cultural exchange.

The TESOL Greece Board and myself look forward to welcoming TESOL Greece members and members of the participating teacher associations in Chania in July, and we hope that this symposium can be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Georgios Chatzis,

Chair, TESOL Greece, 2022-2023
