“ELF Invasion – How Language Shifts our Festive Spirit”

Summary: Words have infinite power; we shape ourselves around them,we even experience multiple lives through them. So does English as a Lingua Franca affect the way we celebrate? Well, yes. We will discuss the many ways in which ELF has shifted our perception of celebrating and hopefully add festive sparks to keeping traditions and identity alive.

“Snow Much Fun: Game-Driven Christmas Activities for ELL Classrooms”

Summary: In this plenary, we’ll mix holiday cheer with instructional theory to explore why game-based activities enhance English language learning. We’ll explore how Christmas activities can build vocabulary, listening, cultural, and other skills, with insights into why play supports language growth. Takeaways will focus on both practical ideas and some cognitive benefits of play that make language acquisition festive and impactful.

Dr. Susan Stetson-Tiligadas teaches at the American College of Greece and LEarning Design and Technology and MA TESOL programs. She has taught English language learners of all ages and has a PhD in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design for Online Learning. Her research interests are in learner motivation, learning design, and cognitive load.
