Efi Tzouri's Interview

Who is Efi Tzouri? What is the single characteristic that you want most people to know about you?

Efi Tzouri studied English Language in Greece and specialised in Theatre Education. She is doing a Master’s degree on Language Education for Refugees and Migrants and she loves working with refugee learners. She is volunteering with the Hands Up Project. She is a mother of two kids.

How is your presentation connected to the umbrella topic of the conference of “The 5 Ts of TESOL: Teach, Train, Transform, Transcend, Trust”?

First of all I believe that the 5 Ts of TESOL determine our career choices, our qualities as teachers as well as the way we accept new challenges and see the opportunities. Since my presentation is closely related to refugee learner groups I consider it really essential to bring all those qualities in class. Bringing our own diversity into classroom helps us be open to our students’ diverse selves. We are ready to listen to them and transform our teaching approach into a safe and fruitful leaning environment.

Which is your favorite T? Teach, Train, Transform, Transcend, or Trust, and why?

I think I have already showed my preference. Transform is the favourite and most important Ts because a teacher should be able to adapt teaching techniques and always be ready to meet students’ needs.

What does TESOL Greece mean to you?

A big, warmhearted, amazing family.

What are your expectations from the 40th TESOL Greece Annual International Convention?

To get higher and higher. One floor higher every year.

If you could send a wish to TESOL Greece, which becomes 40 this year, what would it be?

Always embrace the challenge and move on and beyond.
