A Message from the TESOL Greece Chair
Dear friends of TESOL Greece,
With memories of the 38th TESOL Greece Annual International Convention “Keeping it Practical!” still echoing strong, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who contributed to realising a convention of this scale. My deep appreciation to the TESOL Greece Board members and our Executive Secretary, who worked tirelessly for many months, the plenary speakers, the presenters, the exhibitors and sponsors, all the volunteers, without whom none of this would have been possible, and last but not least, to all of you who attended the convention and played a key role in creating an amazing atmosphere.
TESOL Greece is a vibrant community and, in many respects, a big “family” of many people who come from different areas and contexts of the ELT profession. Each and every one of our members brings their own different context, different perspective, different opinions, different teaching practices and different experiences.
Although in certain contexts the word “different” is negative, one that entails division, it is exactly our diversity and our “differences” that bring us together and make this organisation, or any other professional development organisation for that matter, great. Each of us can bring something unique, something “different”, which contributes to our learning evolution. In a climate of mutual respect, understanding and tolerance, we move forward and develop professionally and personally; thus, through the sharing of our knowledge, we complement each other.
TESOL Greece is an open forum, where people can share and exchange what they have pioneered or experimented on in their own context. From then on, it is entirely up to us whether we adopt, adapt, further develop, or not use the suggestions made at all.
I am grateful to be a part of such a community of people who take pride in their work, people with passion (πάθος), meraki (μεράκι), and philotimo (φιλότιμο), people who continuously strive to better themselves, both as professionals and as individuals.
Our pledge, as the new TESOL Greece Board of Directors, is to organise events and a 39th Annual International Convention of great quality that will be conducive to our members’ professional development, to provide a safe space where ideas can be freely exchanged, while making sure that everyone feels as a welcome and valued member of the family that is TESOL Greece.
