On the morning of October 16th, TESOL Greece arrived with enthusiasm in the beautiful city of Chalkida for an October Event which would explore the theme of “Art and Science in Language Teaching”. The luxurious “Lucy Hotel” kindly welcomed TESOL Greece members and its distinguished speakers: Sophia Mavridi, Susan Liddell – Moutsouroufi and Dr. Theodora Papadopoulou.
The event commenced with Sophia Mavridi sharing her invaluable insight into “The Science of Technology and its effective use in ELT” drawing on examples of practical applications of learning technologies in the language classroom and emphasizing their use as a valuable tool to promote students’ collaboration, participation and interaction.
Susan Liddell – Moutsouroufi went on to discuss the paramount importance of mindfulness and meditation in the classroom, in her wonderful presentation “Mindfull or Mindful?”. Susan introduced the diverse advantages of creating a space for silence and reflection through the formation of new neurolinguistic pathways, which enhance the students’ focus and wellbeing.
Dr. Theodora Papadopoulou illustrated the educational applications of drama and psychodrama. Her inspiring presentation, entitled “Art and Education: The contribution of art to the learning process”, highlighted the need for the implementation of a therapeutic teaching method which encompasses creativity, aesthetic development, expressiveness and communicative effectiveness.
The event ended with the closing remarks by our Chair, Valia Gkotsi, and was followed by lunch at a local restaurant, where Tesolers exchanged ideas, over good food and wine, and promised to meet again at the BIG SIG Day Event on November 13th.
